Me Yah Whae Fall-Winter 2019-2020 is a magazine devoted to the Agua Caliente story; past, present, and future. Me Yah Whae features contributions by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians relating to art, the environment, business, leadership, entertainment, hospitality, and other issues affecting the Coachella Valley. The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians represents one of the most significant cultural histories in California and is a dynamic force in the Coachella Valley with its economic development efforts, philanthropy and civic leadership.

FEATURES

Focusing on the Future
Throughout his career, Executive Director of Construction Rob Donnels has built many beautiful things — from riverboats to Las Vegas Strip landmarks — but his latest project, a cultural plaza dedicated to sharing the story of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, speaks to the beauty and irreplaceability of indigenous people.

Written in Stone
With its majestic mountains and valleys, the Coachella Valley landscape is a canvas for indigenous peoples' first form of written communication: rock art.

Meet the Tribal Council
Since 1955, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians has had a five-Tribal-Member-elected council to oversee governmental affairs and economic ventures. The current Tribal Council represents a dynamic and distinctive mix of qualities: Some are fathers, some are adventurers, some are athletes, and some are even DIYers. All are unequivocally tenacious leaders and proud proponents of their Tribe and its future.

The Self-Determined Sixties
By the second half of the 20th century, Agua Caliente leaders had cleared the way for future Tribal development, ultimately shaping the Palm Springs tourism industry we know today.
